I don't know what it is, but it almost feels like Hawkins VS Killer was the best paced fight in the series so far, and it was a rather good one at that, in fact, it might be my new 2nd favorite:
1. Both characters had established strengths and weaknesses, and we had seen the both of them go all out previously in Wano.
2. Although Killer was stronger, Hawkins had Kid hostage, so he couldn't just finish him directly, and Hawkins is not so weak that Killer can simply ignore him.
3. The themes of both of the characters were explained in the fight.
4. The fight only lasted a few episodes, with less than an episode of screen time total.
5. Hawkins, a prominent character in the series since Sabaody, lost a fight, and ACTUALLY died.

Great fight, 10/10

Some of these smaller fights should only take an episode or two. But, there are so many of these individual fights left, Gear 5 will be towards the end of the year. 😆

Yup, killer is only a Vice Captain but he is also part of the Worst Generation due to his high bounty. The only other non-captain to be part of the Worst Generation is Zoro.

Technically all their entire crews are from the Worst Generation, the term you are looking for is Supernovas, which specifically refers to the 11 rookies who entered Sabaody with a bounty superior to 100 million.

well look at zoro for example, he has the same conqurer haki as luffy, he was long capable, he just doesnt know he has it right now.

It's good to have One Piece back. For those wondering, the main reason behind the hiatus is because of the national marathon. It has taken over most of the slots on TV channels, which in turn took away the broadcasting slots of the anime.

While the wait sure was hell, episodes like these sure do make up for it. And an HD version of Film Red did drop sometime last week so it wasn't really that bad for me lol.

that movie just filled me with more sadness, and just as we finished one of the long running fights they decide to revive the painter instead of just getting to the good part. I wanna see Luffy bang the drum.

i however had a bit of a problem with the pacing actually, and its not even for just the anime, even in the manga, the fight had a really easy solution and killer was just not thinking about it. just cut his arm off and let him bleed to death

You would think Hawkins would've been smarter in regards to Kid's mechanical arm and considered the possibility of someone taking advantage of that (Not to mention how he store the voodoo doll in that very same arm that Killer cut off).

I've seen Hawkins storing Voodoo Dolls in his other arm, so he has no excuses.

Only thing that bugged me was this exactly!!. For me it was not even coincidence tbh...finding the voodoo doll in the same arm was a complete plot armour

I think it was a gamble of his regarding what he read on the cards at the start of the battle

Hawkins was torturing Kid, taking him as a hostage and then beat himself up, and honestly Killer couldn't do anything while Kid was suffering. Killer should've figured that cutting his left arm from the beginning would've ended their fight sooner since Kid doesn't have a left arm to begin with.

The shock of knowing Kidd was in danger probably hampered his thinking a little. Once he calmed down, he figured it out.

Dont forget, even if it tooks week for you, the fight in their time only took a few minutes. Sooner for you is weeks, sooner for him is a minute maybe.

I mean in killers case he wouldnt know for sure if it would work or not maybe it would disarm the doll or nothing happends but it could also lead to kid losing his metal arm for a few seconds vs bigmom or the dmg would get transfered to somewhere else
Its more questionable as to why hawkins didnt kill killer instead of taunting him as he has been a levelheaded char so far and he should have known about his weakness and that kid would be unaffected

I think the main thing Hawkins wanted was for Killer to give up like he did when Kaido showed up.

Yea but thats still a odd turn for him since he is always shown as being calm and following his cards so for him to take out some random tempertantrum by risking his life just seems like a bad villaintrope like he literaly taunts killer to stab him and then proceeds to bonk his own head when killer doesnt comply even tho it would be his last defense so if killer attacked then what?

He obviously knew the head bonking wouldn't kill Kid and just wanted to get Killer to give up, if he wanted to kill Kid he'd just slit his own throat with his sword. And we see him ask Law if he regrets going against the Yonko after seeing how strong Kaido was back in episode 954 so it seems in character to me.

Another anime episode better than the manga. When Toei puts in effort, the episodes are top tier.

This is literally just one chapter in manga, and they managed to stretch it out into one anime episode. Creators be flexing their filler-filler fruit.
